Kotebetta measures around 5400 ft and is the 3rd highest peak in Coorg after Tadiyandamol and Brahmagiri.
Kotebetta is about 22kms from Madikeri and is located in Madapur town which is in between Madikeri and Somwarpet.
-(Bus from madikeri starts at 5:45AM)
The trek to the top of Kotebetta is around 8kms from the base.You can also experience rock climbing a bit.
-(One can take auto to the base of the trek from madapur bus stop or one can even walk to the base ,its about 7km road which has coffee estate on both sides.)
There is an ancient Shiva temple on the peak of the hill.
Locals believe that the famous Pandava brothers from Mahabharat spent a significant period of their exile here.
Around the temple one can find two small ponds and a flat ground with ample shade to sit and enjoy the glories of the mountains overlooking the endless forests.

Things to carry :-
Shoes having good traction.
A pair of extra socks
Personal medication
Rain coat
Leech repellent (salt, iodex spray)/leech socks are the best option.
Minimum 2 liters water bottle
Energy food such as fruits and chocolate.
